Truckers Occupational Accident Insurance policies provide coverage for Medical, Disability, Death and Dismemberment loss. Each coverage area has its own unique limit, with an overall Combined Single Limit (CSL) that applies to any
one person. The most common CSL is $1,000,000.
Most insurance companies providing Truckers Occupational Accident Insurance impose an additional, overall Aggregate Limit that applies to any one accident.
The Aggregate Limit is usually set by the Insurance Company at one or two times the CSL. In the marketplace today, the most common Aggregate Limit is $1,000,000 or $2,000,000.
Only one insurance company selling Truckers Occupational Accident Insurance does not impose an Aggregate Limit - an advantageous benefit for Motor Carriers.
Trucking is generally thought of as a solo endeavor, though some Motor Carriers run team drivers. Consequently, most Insurance Agents and Motor Carriers do not give proper consideration to the Truckers Occupational Accident Insurance policy’s Aggregate Limit.
Natural disasters can cause widespread devastation, and their effects can extend far beyond the damage they create. When such events involve Independent Contractors working for a Motor Carrier, the Aggregate Limit in Occupational Accident Insurance policies may leave some without protection—potentially exposing the Motor Carrier to Workers Compensation (i.e. Contingent Liability) claims.
